Dr. Glogau  bei mir und trug mir die Chefredaction eines neuen Blattes an. Ich bin unter Umständen dafür zu haben, sagte ich. 15 October [1895]. Wien. Verschiedene Schritte und Rückschritte. Mit Güdemann ein paarmal gesprochen. Ich finde ihn immer wieder erlaut und heize ihm jedesmal ein. Zu irgend einer Bemühung ist er nicht zu haben. Er ist Einer der Vielen, die mitgehen werden, wenn Alle gehen. Zum Vorausgehen kein Muth. (xx)   Die Verhandlungen wegen der Zeitung dauern. Ich kann die Chefredaction nur annehmen, wenn meine Unabhängigkeit gesichert ist.   Mit Professor Singer1 gesprochen, der auf mich schon bei seinem ersten Besuch in Baden den Eindruck gemacht hatte, dass er ein Tagesblatt machen will. Ein Blatt brauche ich unbedingt für die Sache. Singer ist im Princip bereit mit mir

Various steps forward and backward.

 

Spoke to Güdemann a few times. I keep finding his ardor cooled and get him steamed up again each time. He cannot be induced to make any effort, being one of the many who will go along when everybody goes. No courage to lead the way.

 

The negotiations about the newspaper continue. I can accept the editorship only if my independence is assured.

 

Spoke to Professor Singer who gave me the impression even on his first visit at Baden that he intends to start a daily.

 

I definitely need a newspaper for the cause.

 

Singer is ready in principle to start a paper with me.

כל מיני צעדים קדימה ואחורה.

עם גידֶמן שוחחתי פעמים אחדות. כל פעם אני מוצא אותו פושר יותר ויותר וכל פעם אני חוזר ומלהיב אותו. אי־אפשר לגייס אותו למעשה כלשהו. הוא אחד מן הרבים שיצטרפו כשכולם ילכו. להליכה בראש חסר לו אומץ־הלב.

הדיונים בעניין העיתון ממושכים. אוכל לקבל עלי את תפקיד העורך הראשי רק אם תובטח מלוא העצמאות שלי.

שוחחתי עם הפרופסור זינגר, שכבר בביקורו הראשון בּבּאדֶן התרשמתי שהוא רוצה להוציא עיתון יומי.

דרוש לי בהחלט עיתון בשביל העניין.

זינגר מוכן בעיקרון לעשות אתי עיתון.
