What am I to think of our project?

 

I still think we are losing precious time, an opportunity that will never return. In his last letter M. Crespi very wisely pointed out that the audience, while freeing our friends of their obligations, commits H.M. to nothing. Let him only deign to hear me. I am so convinced of the value of my proposals for the empire that I have no doubt of my success.

With the assistance that we can provide, all this can be accomplished in no time.

עדיין אני סבור שאנו מאבדים זמן יקר, הזדמנות שלא תשוב. במכתבו האחרון העיר מר קרֶספּי ברוב תבונה שהריאיון, הגם שהוא משחרר את ידידינו מאחריות, אין הוא מחייב את הסולטאן כלל ועיקר. שיואיל נא להאזין לי, לא יותר. אני כה משוכנע בתועלת שהצעותי יכולות להביא לממלכה, שאינני מפקפק בהצלחתי.
