meinte dann, er solle zunächst eine halbofficiöse Darstellung seiner nichtantisemitischen Motive für die Sanctionirung der Wiener Gemeindewahlreform publiciren. Er sagte, er habe schon eine solche für die Wiener Abendpost verfasst. „Kann ich sie sehen?“ fragte ich. Sofort ging er hinaus, holte mir das Communiqué, führte mich in einen Nebensalon, wo ich (xx) das Manuscript durchsehen sollte. Dann bemühte er sich noch um einen Bleistift für mich u. liess mich allein, während er in der Zwischenzeit eine Audienz ertheilte. Ich las nun das Communiqué durch u. fand Einiges auszusetzen, was ich ihm mittheilte, als er wiederkam. Die Stelle „die Wahl= reform gebe  bedeute keine ernstliche Beeinträchtigung irgend eines Theils der Wählerschaft“,

 Then I said that he should first publish an unofficial presentation of his non anti-semitic motives for sanctioning the reform of the Vienna municipal elections.

 

He said he had already written one for the Wiener Abendpost.

 

“May I see it?” I asked.

 

He immediately went out, got the release, and showed me into an adjoining room where I was to look through the manuscript. Then he troubled himself to get me a pencil and left me alone, while he used the time to receive someone.

 

I now went through the release and found some things to criticize, which I told him about when he returned. I thought that he left himself wide open with the passage: “The electoral reform means no serious encroachment on any part of the electorate.”

אמרתי שייטיב לעשות אם יפרסם תחילה הודעה חצי־רשמית על מניעיו הלא־אנטישמיים לתיקון חוק הבחירות לעיריית וינה. 

הוא אמר שכבר חיבר הודעה כזאת בשביל Wiener Abendpost.

"האוכל לראות אותה?" שאלתי.

מיד יצא, הביא לי את ההודעה והוביל אותי לחדר סמוך ששם אוכל לעבור על כתב־היד. אחר־כך אף הטריח עצמו להביא לי עיפרון והשאיר אותי לבד בעוד הוא מקבל מישהו לריאיון.

עברתי אפוא על ההודעה ומצאתי כמה דברים שיש לתקנם, והערתי לו עליהם כשחזר. סברתי שהמשפט "התיקונים לחוק אין בהם משום פגיעה משמעותית בחלק כלשהו של ציבור הבוחרים", חושף אותו לביקורת.
