liess im Bureau äussersten Dampf geben. Am 29 Vormittags gingen wir zum Allotment, bei 240,000 registrirten Shares. Indessen wurden noch bis 5 Uhr Abends die fehlenden registrirt, u. ich liess noch am selben Abend vom Auditor Jackson (xx) diese Thatsache be= scheinigen. Das Allotment erfolgte auf Grund unserer materiellen Ueberzeugung, dass mindestens 250,000 Shares subscribirt waren. Durch die bis Abends vollzogene Registrirung der inzwischen per Post einge= laufenen Subscriptionen wurde jeder späteren Verleumdung, auf die wir sicher rechnen durften, der Boden entzogen. Heymann, der Südafrikaner, der uns bei der bisherigen Gründung als Director gute Dienste geleistet hatte, demissionirte, von Gaster u. Bentwich hinausgeekelt. Gaster u. Bentwich wollen die Macht in der Bank an sich reissen. Ich drang in Heymann, zu bleiben, aber nach langem Hin u. Her blieb er schliesslich doch bei seinem Entschluss. Gaster proponirte an Heymanns Stelle einen anderen Director, der ihm ergeben  

I ordered full steam ahead in the office. On the morning of the 29th we proceeded with the allotment, with 240,000 registered shares. Meanwhile, by five o’clock that afternoon the missing ones were registered, and the very same evening I had that fact certified by Auditor Jackson. The allotment was made on the basis of our material conviction that at least 250,000 shares had been subscribed. The registration of the shares that had come in by mail in the meantime, a task completed by evening, cut the ground from under the feet of any subsequent slander, which we may count on with certainty.

 

Heymann, the South African, who had rendered us good service as a director in the preliminary work on the Bank, handed in his resignation.

 

Gaster and Bentwich having made things unbearable for him,  Gaster and Bentwich want to seize control of the Bank for themselves. I urged Heymann to stay, but after much back־and־forth he finally did stick to his decision.

 

Gaster proposed another director, who is loyal to him, to take  Heymann’s place. Him I rejected.

ב־29 לפני הצהריים התחלנו בהקצאה עם 240 אלף מניות רשומות. בינתיים נרשמו עד השעה חמש אחר־הצהריים המניות החסרות, וביקשתי מרואה־החשבון ג׳קסון שיאשר זאת עוד בו בערב. ההקצאה נעשתה על יסוד הכרתנו המוצקה שיש לפחות 250 אלף מניות חתומות. על־ידי רישומן בו בערב של ההחתמות שהגיעו בינתיים בדואר, שמטנו את הקרקע מתחת למיני השמצות בעתיד, שאפשר היה לצפות להן לבטח.

היימן, הדרום־אפריקני, שבשלב הזה של הייסוּד עשה לנו שירותים טובים בתור מנהל, התפטר, משום שגאסטֶר ובֶּנטוויץ׳ המאיסו עליו את עבודתו.

גאסטֶר ובֶּנטוויץ׳ רוצים ליטול לידיהם את השלטון בבנק. הפצרתי בהיימן שיישאר, ואולם אחרי שיקולים ממושכים לכאן ולכאן שב ודבק בהחלטתו.

גאסטֶר הציע למנות במקומו של היימן מנהל אחר, שיהיה נאמן לו. את האיש הזה אני דחיתי.
