To Dr. Alfred Stern, the Community Councillor and Vice-President of the Vienna Jewish Community, I owe—who would have thought it!—an idea for the future. The other day he asked me not to let their Polna Protest Meeting at the Musikvereinssaal be disturbed by our students. I promised it to him on the condition that we at least be permitted to put up one speaker to discuss the question of what was to be done with the exiles and “burned-out people״ of Polna, Kuttenberg, etc. 

 

Should not a campaign to aid them be started?

הצעתנו פירושה פתרון שהוא גם אנושי וגם שלם. אף אמרת, הוד מלכותך, שרעיונות חובקי עולם כאלה יכולים לעניין את הצאר. מי ייתן!

לחבר מועצת העיר וסגן יושב־ראש הקהילה היהודית הד״ר אלפרד שטֶרן אני חייב תודה – מי יאמין – על רעיון בשביל העתיד. לפני זמן לא רב ביקש ממני שאשפיע על הסטודנטים שלנו שלא יפריעו באסֵפת המחאה בעניין פּוֹלנה שתיערך באולם של האגודה למוזיקה. הבטחתי לו שאעשה זאת אם יורשה לנו להעמיד לפחות נואם אחד שידבר על השאלה מה ייעשה עם המגורשים ועם אלה שרכושם נשרף, מפּוֹלנה, מקוּטֶנבֶּרג וכו'. 

אולי צריך ליזום פעולת סיוע.
