Ich weiß nicht, ob es unterschätzt oder über=

schätzt wird. — Bei diesem Umfang eines Vermögens

kommt es überhaupt nicht mehr auf das an, was that=

sächlich in Gold, Silber, Werthpapieren, Häusern, Gütern,

Fabriken, Unternehmungen aller Art sichtbar und

greifbar ist. — Auf die materielle Fundirung kommt

es nicht mehr an, bei Ihnen noch viel weniger als

bei einer Staatsbank. — Denn wenn die Bank mit

zwei Drittheilen, der Hälfte, ja mit einem Drittel

decken kann, so genügt bei Ihnen vielleicht ein Zehntel

oder noch weniger. — Ihr Credit ist enorm, monströs. —

Ihr Credit beträgt viele Milliarden. — Ich sage

nicht zehn, zwanzig oder fünfzig Milliarden. — Es

handelt sich da schon um Unüberschaubares, was man

in Ziffern nicht ausdrückt. —

Und darin ist die Gefahr. —

Gefahr für Sie, wie für die Länder, in denen Sie

etablirt sind, ja für die ganze Welt. —

Ihr Vermögen — und ich begreife darunter

Fundirung mit Credit zusammen — gleicht einem

Thurm. — Dieser Thurm wächst weiter, Sie bauen

weiter , Sie müßen weiter bauen — und das ist

das Unheimliche daran — und weil Sie die Natur=

I don’t know whether it is underestimated or overestimated. With a fortune of this size it is no longer a matter of what is visible or tangible in the way of gold, silver, securities, houses, estates, factories, and concerns of all kinds. It is no longer a matter of the material resources, even much less in your case than with a state bank. Because, if a bank can secure coverage with two-thirds, one-half, even one-third, perhaps one-tenth or less will suffice for you. Your credit is enormous, monstrous, amounts to many billions. I do not say ten, twenty, or fifty billions. Incalculable amounts are involved, and they cannot be expressed in figures.

And that is where the danger lies! The danger for you, for the countries in which you are established, for the entire world.

Your fortune—and by this I mean resources plus credit—is like a tower. This tower continues to grow; you continue to build, you must continue—and that is the sinister part of it.

אינני יודע אם ממעטים בערכו או שמרבים בערכו. בהיקף כזה של רכוש אין זה חשוב כלל מה מוחשי באמת ונראה לעין, כמה ממנו הוא זהב, כסף, ניירות ערך, בתים, אחוזות, בתי־חרושת ועסקים מסוג זה או אחר. אין זה תלוי עוד בנכסים החומריים, אצלכם עוד פחות מאשר אצל בנק ממלכתי. שהרי אם הבנק יכול להבטיח כיסוי על־ידי שני שלישים מערכו, על־ידי חצי ואף על־ידי שליש, אז אצלכם די אולי בעשירית או בפחות מזה. האשראי שלכם הוא עצום, מפלצתי. האשראי שלכם מסתכם בהרבה מיליארדים. אינני אומר עשרה, עשרים או חמישים מיליארדים. כאן הרי מדובר במשהו שאין להקיפו עוד, משהו שאי־אפשר לבטאו עוד בסְפָרוֹת.

ובכך הסכנה.

סכנה לכם ולארצות שאתם פועלים בהן, אכן, לכל העולם.

הרכוש שלכם, ואני כולל בו את הנכסים ואת האשראי גם יחד, משול למגדל. המגדל הזה גדל והולך, אתם צריכים להמשיך ולבנות — וזה הצד הלא־נעים שבעניין —
