Nur sagte ich, dass ich nicht die Associations als solche sondern die einzelnen Personen hervorragenden Personen in die Society rufen wolle. Es war eine ermüdende Kampfunterredung. Mocatta, der mein Buch nicht kannte, brachte alle alten Argumente vor. Montefiore sagte ernst, dass ich eine Revolution aller seiner bisherigen Ideen verlange.

I stated the program as follows:

 

‘‘The Society of Jews sets itself the task of acquiring, under international law, a territory for those Jews who are unable to assimilate.”

 

The gentlemen asked for time to think this over, and I naturally acceded. However, I said that I did not want to take into the Society the associations as such, but simply the outstanding individuals.

 

It was an exhausting battle of words. Mocatta, who had not read my book, brought up all the old arguments.

 

Montefiore said with gravity that I was demanding a revolution in all the ideas he had held up to now.

את התוכנית ניסחתי כך:

״ה־Society of Jews מקבלת עליה את המשימה לרכוש על בסיס משפט העמים טריטוריה למען היהודים שאינם מסוגלים להיטמע".

האדונים ביקשו שהות כדי לשקול בעניין, ואני כמובן הסכמתי לכך. ואולם אמרתי שאין אני מבקש לקרוא ל־Associations בתור ארגונים שישתתפו ב־Society, אלא לאישים הבולטים כפרטים. 

זו היתה התנצחות מייגעת. מוֹקאטָה, שלא הכיר את ספרי, העלה את כל הנימוקים הישנים.

מונטפיורי אמר ברצינות שאני דורש ממנו לעשות מהפכה בכל הרעיונות שהחזיק עד עכשיו.
