reich. Er sträubte sich ein bischen gegen den Titel Chef, nahm aber die Sache an.   Nachmittags sprach ich im Vereins= local der russisch jüdischen Studenten draussen im Quartier des Gobelins. B[ernard] Lazare war anwesend, auch drei jüdische Studentinnen aus Russland. Der Saal voll. Ich hielt meine mir nun schon bekannte Rede, war aber nicht gut disponirt. Ich sprach noch mit Schonung von den Finanzjuden, die keine Eile haben und schloss mit den Worten: Je ne vous dis pas encore marchons — je dis seulement: la jeunesse, debout! Ich forderte sie auf, die Or= ganisation der Cadres zu beginnen.   Et nous voilà repartis de Paris. Diese reizende Stadt hat mich nie so entzückt, wie diesmal am Abschiedstag. Wann werde ich Paris wiedersehn?  

He demurred a little against the title “Chief,” but accepted the post.

 

 

In the afternoon I spoke in the club rooms of the Russian Jewish students, out in the Gobelins quarter. B. Lazare was present, also three Jewish female students from Russia. The room was packed. I made the speech with which I am familiar by now, but was not in good form.

 

I spoke with forbearance of the moneyed Jews who are in no hurry, and concluded with the words: “Je ne vous dis pas encore: marchons—je dis seulement: la jeunesse, debout! [I am not saying to you as yet, ‘Forward march!’ All I am saying is, ‘Youth, to your feet!]”

 

I called on them to start organizing the cadres.

 

Et nous voilà repartis de Paris [And here we are, leaving Paris again].

 

Never has this charming city so enchanted me as on this parting-day.

 

When shall I see Paris again?

הוא ניסה להתנגד לתואר Chef, אבל הסכים לבסוף.

אחר־הצהריים נאמתי באולם של אגודת הסטודנטים היהודים מרוסיה ברובע גוֹבּלֶן. ברנאר לאזאר היה שם, גם שלוש סטודנטיות יהודיות מרוסיה. האולם היה מלא. נאמתי את הנאום המוכר לי מכבר, אלא שמצב רוחי לא היה טוב.

דיברתי במתינות על אילי ההון היהודים, שזמנם אינו דוחק בהם, וסיימתי במלים:



 Je ne vous dis pas encore marchons - je dis seulement: la jeunesse, debout!



(עדיין אינני אומר לכם הבה נצעד קדימה — אני רק אומר: צעירים, קומו!) קראתי להם להתחיל בארגון הקאדרים.

 

Et nous voilà repartis de Paris (והנה שוב יצאנו מפאריס).

העיר הנפלאה הזאת מעולם לא קסמה לי כמו בפעם הזאת, ביום הפרֵדה.
