Nicht nur, weil es gegen das moderne Bewußt=

sein wäre — mein Gott, Noth bricht Eisen — sondern

auch, weil das sofort alle Juden, Arm und Reich

den Umsturzparteien zujagen würde. —

Man kann also eigentlich nichts Wirksames ge=

gen uns thun. — Und doch wächst der Antisemitis=

mus in den Bevölkerungen täglich, stündlich, und

muß weiterwachsen, weil die Ursachen nicht be=

hoben, nicht zu beheben sind. —

Die causa remota ist der im Mittelalter

eingetretene Verlust unserer Assimilirbarkeit. —

Die causa proxima ist unsere Überproduc=

tion von mittleren Intelligenzen, die keinen

Abfluß nach unten haben und keinen Aufstieg nach

oben — nämlich keinen gesunden Abfluß und kei=

nen gesunden Austieg. — Wir werden nach unten

hin zu Umstürzern proletarisirt, bilden die

Unterofficiere aller Revolutionsparteien. — Und

gleichzeitig wächst nach oben unsere furchtbare

Geldmacht. —

So ist es. — So ist es wirklich! — Ich über=

treibe nicht und leugne nicht. — Was ich sage,

ist einfach und wahr. —

Und darum enthält mein Entwurf die Lösung! —

Wird Jemand sagen: Ja, wenn so etwas möglich

wäre, hätte man es schon früher gemacht? —

Früher war es nicht möglich. — Jetzt ist es

möglich. — Noch vor hundert, vor fünfzig Jahren

wäre es eine Schwärmerei gewesen. — Heute

ist das Alles wirklich. —

Not only because it would run counter to modern sensibilities—Good Lord, necessity knows no law— but also because that would immediately drive all Jews, poor and rich alike, into the arms of the revolutionary parties.

Therefore, no effective measures can actually be taken against us. And yet, anti-Semitism increases among the nations every day, every hour, and must continue to grow, because the causes have not been and cannot be removed.

The causa remota [indirect cause] is the loss of our assimilability which dates from the Middle Ages.

The causa proxima [immediate cause] is our overproduction of average minds who cannot sink and cannot rise—that is, cannot do so in a healthy way. At the bottom we are forced into becoming proletarian revolutionaries, constituting the petty officers of all revolutionary parties. And, at the same time, our frightful financial power grows at the top.

That is how it is. That is how things really are. I am not exaggerating and not denying anything. What I am saying is the simple truth.

And this is why my outline contains the solution. Do I hear somebody saying: Well, if such a thing were possible, would it not have been done before?

It was not possible before. It is now. As recently as a hundred or fifty years ago it would have been a fantasy. Today it is all a reality.

לא רק משום שהדבר יהיה נוגד את ההכרה המודרנית — הרי הכורח שובר את המוסכמות — אלא בעיקר משום שיוליך מיד את כל היהודים, עניים כעשירים, לזרועותיהן של המפלגות המהפכניות.

אי־אפשר אפוא לעשות נגדנו שום דבר אֶפֶקטיבי, ולמרות הכול האנטישמיות עולה כפורחת בקרב העמים יום יום, שעה שעה, והיא תמשיך ותתפשט, משום שהסיבות בעינן עומדות, אי־אפשר להסירן.

ה־causa remota (הסיבה הרחוקה) נעוצה באובדן כושרנו להתבולל שמקורו בימי הביניים.

ה־causa proxima (הסיבה הקרובה) היא שאנו מייצרים יותר מדי בעלי השכלה מן השכבה הבינונית, שאין באפשרותם להתנקז כלפי מטה ואינם יכולים לעלות מעלה, כלומר חסרים הם ניקוז בריא ועלייה בריאה. הופכים אותנו לפרולטרים כלפי מטה, אנו נעשים המנהיגים הזוטרים של כל המפלגות המהפכניות. ובעת ובעונה אחת גדלה כלפי מעלה עוצמת הכספים שלנו.

ככה זה. ככה זה באמת! אינני מגזים, אינני כופר באמת. אני אומר דבר פשוט ונכון. ומשום כך טמון הפתרון בטיוטת התוכנית שלי!

יבואו ויאמרו: כן, אם זה אפשרי, הלוא יכלו לעשותו עוד מקודם?

קודם זה לא היה אפשרי. עכשיו זה אפשרי. עוד לפני מאה שנה, לפני חמישים שנה, זה היה חלום־שווא. היום הכול ממשי.
