Der Auszug ins gelobte Land, stellt sich praktisch als eine ungeheuere in der modernen Welt beispiel= lose — Trans­portunternehmung dar. — Was, Transport? Ein Complex aller menschlichen Unternehmungen, die wie Zahnräder ineinandergreifen werden. — Und bei dieser Unternehmung werden schon in den ersten Stadien die nachstrebende Menge unserer jungen Leute Beschäftigung finden: alle die Ingenieure, Archi­tekten, Technologen, Chemiker, Aerzte, Advo= caten, die in den letzten dreißig Jahren aus dem Ghetto herausgekom­men sind und glaubten, daß sie ihr Brod, und ein bischen Ehre außerhalb des jüdi= schen Schachers finden würden, die jetzt verzwei= feln müßen und ein furchtbares Bildungs= proletariat  zu bilden beginnen. — Denen aber meine ganze Liebe ge­hört und die ich so ver= mehren will, wie Sie sie vermindern möchten. — In denen ich die künftige nachwachsende Kraft der Juden sehe. — Meinesgleichen, mit einem Wort. — Und aus diesem Bildungsproletariern bilde ich die Generalstäbe und Cadres des Landsuchungs= Landfindungs und Landeroberungsheeres. — Schon ihr Abzug wird in den Mittelständen der antisemitischen Länder ein wenig Luft  

The exodus to the Promised Land constitutes in practical terms an enormous job of transportation, unprecedented in the modern world. Did I say “transportation”? It is a complex of all kinds of human enterprise which will be geared one into the other like cog-wheels. And this undertaking will even in its first stages provide employment for an aspiring multitude of our young people:

 

All the engineers, architects, technologists, chemists, physicians, lawyers, who have emerged from the ghetto during the last thirty years and who thought that they would gain their livelihood and their bit of honor outside the higgling and haggling Jewish trades. They must now be getting desperate and are beginning to constitute a frightful proletariat of intellectuals. But all my love belongs to them, and I want to increase their numbers even as you wish to decrease them. In them I see the future, as yet dormant strength of the Jews. In a word, my kind of people.

 

Out of this proletariat of intellectuals I shall form the general staff and the cadres of the army which is to seek, discover, and take over the land.

 

Their very departure will create some breathing space for the middle classes in anti-Semitic countries 

היציאה אל הארץ המובטחת מצטיירת כמו מפעל־תובלה כביר שאין לו תקדים בעולם המודרני. מה, תובלה? מערכת כוללת של כל מפעלי־אנוש שייאחזו זה בזה כגלגלי שיניים. ובמפעל הזה ימצאו תעסוקה, כבר בהתחלה, המוני צעירינו הנוהים לשם.

כל אותם המהנדסים, האדריכלים, הטכנולוגים, הכימאים, הרופאים, עורכי־הדין, שיצאו מן הגטו בשלושים השנים האחרונות והאמינו שיוציאו את לחמם ומעט כבוד מחוץ לסחר־מכר היהודי, עומדים עכשיו על סף ייאוש והם הופכים לאט לאט לפרולטריון איום של משכילים. ודווקא לאלה נתונה אהבתי כולה ואת אלה ברצוני להרבות כשם שאתה רוצה להפחית אותם. בהם אני רואה את כוחות העתיד שיצמחו ליהודים. אנשים כמוני, בקיצור.

ומקרב הפרולטרים המשכילים הללו ארכיב את המטות הראשיים ואת חלוצי חיל מחפשי־הארץ ומוצְאי־הארץ וכובשי־הארץ.

מעצם יציאתם ירווח מעט ויוקל הלחץ במעמדות הביניים בארצות האנטישמיות.
