12 Mai [1896]. Grosse Dinge brauchen kein festes Fun= dament. Einen Apfel muss man auf den Tisch legen, damit er nicht falle. Die Erde schwebt in der Luft. So kann ich den Judenstaat vielleicht ohne jeden sicheren Halt gründen und befestigen. Das Geheimniss liegt in der Bewegung. (Ich glaube dahinaus wird auch irgendwo das lenkbare Luftschiff gefunden werden. Die Schwere überwunden durch die Bewegung, und nicht das Schiff, sondern dessen Bewegung ist zu lenken.) 13 Mai [1896] Brief an Newlinsky nach London Mon cher monsieur, j’ai travaillé pour vous et j’espère bien que vous vous en apercevrez. Notamment j’ai fait prévenir Lord (xx) S(alisbury) et il me semble que de ce côté là (xx) on verra l’arrangement d'un œil favorable. Quant à mes correligionnaires, je les ai déjà fait

Great things need no solid foundation. An apple must be put on a table so that it will not fall. The earth floats in mid-air.

 

Similarly, I may be able to found and stabilize the Jewish State without any firm support.

The secret lies in motion. (I believe that somewhere in this area of thought lies the invention of the dirigible airship. Weight overcome by motion; and not the ship but its motion is to be steered.)

Letter to Newlinsky at London:

 

Dear Sir:

 

I have done some work for you and hope that you will see the results of it. In particular, I have had Lord Salisbury approached, and it seems to me that we may expect a favorable attitude in that quarter. As regards my co-religionists, I have already got them going, in Paris as well as in London.

דברים גדולים אין צורך שיהיה להם בסיס מוצק. תפוח, כדי שלא ייפול, צריך לשים אותו על השולחן. כדור הארץ מרחף בחלל.

כך אוכל אולי לייסד ולקבֵּע את מדינת־היהודים בלי כל משען יציב.

הסוד טמון בתנועה (סבורני שכך גם יימצא הפתרון לספינת האוויר המונחית: התגברות על הכובד באמצעות התנועה; לא את הספינה צריך יהיה לנווט, כי אם את התנועה שלה).

אדוני היקר,

פעלתי למענך ואני מקווה שתיווכח בכך. ובכן, ביקשתי שיודיעו ללורד ס[וֹלסבֶּרי] ונדמה לי שמן העבר ההוא יתייחסו להסדר בעין יפה. אשר לבני דתי, כבר הפעלתי אותם גם בפאריס וגם בלונדון.
