Bis Mitte Juli bleibe ich in Paris. — Dann verreise

ich auf längere Zeit. — Es gilt der Sache. — Ich bitte

Sie (xx) aber, über diesen Punkt wie über alle an=

deren von mir berührten volles Stillschweigen zu

beobachten. — Meine Handlungen mögen Ihnen derzeit

noch nicht wichtig vorkommen; eben darum mache

ich Sie darauf aufmerksam, daß mir an absoluter

Geheimhaltung viel gelegen ist. —

Im Übrigen versichere ich Sie aufrichtig, daß

mir unsere Unterredung, selbst in der Unvollstän=

digkeit interessant war, und daß Sie mich nicht

enttäuscht haben. —

Hier folgen Gedankensplitter, die

ziehen, und die in meiner Staats=

schrift, „der Judenstaat“ zur Ver=

werthung kamen: —

I shall stay in Paris until the middle of July. Then I shall go away for some length of time. It concerns the cause. I beg you, however, to maintain complete silence on this point as well as all the others I have touched upon. At present, my actions may not seem important to you as yet; this is precisely why I am drawing your attention to the value that I attach to absolute secrecy.

For the rest, I assure you in all sincerity that our discussion, even in its fragmentary state, has proved interesting to me and that you have been no disappointment.

ואילו בשביל הצורך העמוק ביותר, הקרוב ביותר, המכאיב ביותר של היהודים, לא יימצא?

עד אמצע יולי אני נשאר בפאריס. אחר־כך אסע לזמן רב למדי. למען העניין. ואולם אני מבקש ממך להקפיד על שתיקה גמורה בעניין הזה כביתר העניינים שנגעתי בהם. פעולותי אולי לא ייראו בעיניך חשובות עכשיו; דווקא משום כך אני מסב את תשומת לבך לכך שהסודיות הגמורה חשובה לי מאוד.

ולבסוף אני מבטיח לך בכנות ששיחתנו, אף שלא היתה שלמה, היתה רבת עניין בשבילי, ושלא הכזבת אותי.
