15 Mai [1896] Brief an Newlinsky Mon cher monsieur, je viens de recevoir votre dépêche. Je vous avais déjà écrit avant-hier à Berkeley-Hôtel, Piccadilly, d’où vous voudrez bien retirer ma lettre. Brièvement je vous répète le contenu. (xx) J’ai fait pré= parer pour vous le terrain auprès de Lord S[alisbury] et j’ai prié mes amis de prévenir (xx) aussi les chefs du mouve= ment arménien. À Londres c’est je crois M[onsieu]r Nikoladze, (xx) auquel il faudra parler. Un de mes amis s’est aussi chargé d’intervenir auprès du chef des comités russes à

 Singer had thought that I should hold a big meeting “with an admission fee.” But this I reject. I do not address paying audiences. Although, for all I know, this may be the usual thing in England.

Letter to Newlinsky:

 

Dear Sir:

 

I have just received your telegram. The day before yesterday I wrote you at the Berkeley Hotel, Piccadilly; please claim my letter there.

 

I shall briefly repeat its contents. I have had the ground prepared for you with Lord S., and I have asked my friends to make contact also with the heads of the Armenian movement. In London, I believe Mr. Nikoladze is the man to talk to. One of my friends has also undertaken to take steps with the head of the Russian Committees at Tiflis.

סינגֶר היה סבור שאני צריך לערוך אסֵפה גדולה עם דמי כניסה, ואולם אני דוחה את זה. אין אני נואם לפני מאזינים קוני כרטיסים. ואולי זה הנוהג באנגליה.

אחזור בקיצור על תוכן הדברים. הכשרתי בשבילך את הקרקע אצל הלורד ס[וֹלסבֶּרי] ואף ביקשתי מידידַי שיבואו בדברים גם עם ראשי התנועה הארמנית. בלונדון זה מר ניקוֹלאדזֶה, דומני, שעמו צריך לדבר. אחד מידידַי התחייב להשתדל אצל ראש הוועדים ברוסיה, בטיפליס.
