Diese Peripetien sind uninteressant und

vergessenswerth, wenn man sie nicht

gleich aufschreibt.

Aber gestern Abends gab es etwas

Starkes in der Redaction. Bacher

rief mich in sein Zimmer.

Ich glaubte, er wolle über meinen

Zeitungsplan reden u. machte inner=

lich zum Gefecht klar. Kam es schon

jetzt zum Bruche?

Bacher fragte: „Was haben Sie in

Konstantinopel für die Neue Presse

ausgemacht?“

Ich war ganz verblüfft: „Ausgemacht?

Gar nichts.“

Er: „Sie waren mit Newlinski unten?“

Ich: „Ja. Das ist bekannt.“

Er: „Er hat Sie bei den Ministern

herumgeführt?“

Ich: „Jawol.“

Er: „Es ist uns heute zum zweiten=

But last night there was a substantial development at the office. Bacher called me to his room.

I thought he wanted to speak about my plan for a newspaper, and inwardly made ready for a battle. Was the break going to come this early?

Bacher asked: “What arrangements have you made for the Neue Presse in Constantinople?"

I was quite dumbfounded. “Arrangements? None whatever." He: “You were down there with Newlinski?"

I: “Yes. That is common knowledge."

He: “He took you around to the Ministers?"

I: “Yes indeed."

He: “Today we were informed for the second time that you have been to Constantinople

אני חשבתי שהוא רוצה לדבר על תוכנית העיתון שלי והייתי מוכן לקרב. האם כבר הגיעה שעת הקרע?

בּאכֶר שאל: ״מה סיכמת בקושטא בשביל ״Neue Presse?״

הייתי כולי נדהם: "סיכמתי? לא כלום".

הוא: "היית שם עם נֶוולינסקי?"

אני: "כן, זה ידוע".

הוא: "הוא הוביל אותך אל השרים?"

אני: "נכון".

הוא: "היום מסרו לנו בפעם השנייה שהיית בקושטא
