Davon liess er auch den Oberstlandmarschall

verständigen u. daraufhin waren die

Czechen brav u. kleinlaut. Die Drohung

mit der Auflösung für den Fall, dass

die Ehe des Erzherzogs Franz Ferdinand

oder das Böhmische Staatsrecht irgendwie

zur Sprache käme, war das „Zugeständniss“.

„Wie finden Sie das, Herr Dr. Herzl?“

„Ich finde, dass Sie regiert haben.“

Ich gestand ihm auch zu, dass er gegen

meine frühere Ansicht Recht gehabt habe,

als er die Wahlen nicht „machte“.

„Das geht nicht, wie anderswo“, sagte

er. „In Ungarn kann sich die Regierung

eine einheitliche Partei machen. Bei

uns muss man in jedem Kronland

mit einer anderen Partei gehen. Also

lieber gar nicht interveniren, sonst

גם הודיתי לפניו שבניגוד לדעתי מקודם, צדק כשלא התערב בבחירות.

"כאן הדברים אינם כבמקום אחר", אמר. "בהונגריה הממשלה יכולה להעמיד לעצמה מפלגה מאוחדת, ואילו אצלנו חייבים ללכת בכל פרובינציה עם מפלגה שונה. מוטב אפוא לא להתערב, שמא כולם יהיו נגדך.
