er seiner Regierung schreiben,

Ministerpräsidenten kenne.

Being lazy, like all diplomats, he asked me to write such a letter for him. However, I refused to write to the Minister for Colonies and the Navy. עצֵל, ככל הדיפלומטים, ביקש שאכתוב בשבילו מכתב כזה. ואולם אני סירבתי לכתוב אל שר המושבות והצי. פתק אישי, ובו משאלותי וה־question préalable (השאלה המקדימה), אני מוכן לשלוח. הוא דיבר על חתנו, שהוא קצין קולוניאלי וגם קצין תותחנים. הראה לי את תמונתו של האיש הצעיר, הנראה כהולל שכילה את כוחו. בקצרה, החלה לשרור בינינו אווירה משפחתית.

אחר־כך התנצל שלא קיבל אותי על־פי המלצתו של הֶכלֶר. עכשיו יוכל לכתוב אל ממשלתו שהוא מכיר אותי באמצעות ראש ממשלת אוסטריה.

אני כותב לו עכשיו [בצרפתית]:
