Jetzt wird auch Alphonse Roth=

schild, der treueste Leser der

Libre Parole, die Sache zur Kennt=

nis nehmen. Die haute finance

liest ja nur dieses Peitschenblatt.

26 Jänner[1897]

Heute Früh hatten wir in der N[euen] Fr[eien] Pr[esse]

die Nachricht, das Finanzarrangement

mit der Türkei „unter der Garantie aller

Mächte“ sei perfect.

Ich glaubte es zuerst nicht und tele=

phonirte an Newlinski, der nur be=

stätigte: C’est mauvais pour nous.“

Dann war F[riedrich] Schütz bei mir, der die

Sache auch bezweifelt, weil er aus

This morning the N. Fr. Pr. received the news that the financial arrangement with Turkey “under the guarantee of all Powers” has been completed.

At first I didn’t believe it and telephoned to Newlinski who only affirmed: “C’est mauvais pour nous [It’s bad for us].”

Then F. Schütz came to see me. He also doubts the story, because he has news from Russia according to which the Russian government declined to respect the wishes of the French financiers (who desire this arrangement).

כשהיתה כאן מאדאם ראטאצי הזקנה וניסתה לעניין אותי במתן פרסום [לכתב העת], גרמתי שתוציא לאור את חיבורי. זה אכן היה רעיון טוב.

הבוקר הגיעה אלינו ל־.N.Fr.Pr הידיעה שהושלם הסדר הפיננסים עם טורקיה "בערבות כל המעצמות".

בתחילה לא האמנתי וטלפנתי לנֶוולינסקי, והוא רק אישר: "C'est mauvais pour nous" ("זה רע בשבילנו").

אחר־כך היה אצלי פרידריך שיץ, שגם הוא מטיל ספק בעניין, כי קיבל ידיעות מרוסיה ולפיהן סירבה ממשלת רוסיה להיענות לפנייתם של אנשי הכספים הצרפתים (הרוצים בהסדר הזה).
