kleinen Notiz oder Berichtigung auf die

Gnade Blochs angewiesen zu sein, machen

die Gründung eines eigenen Organs zu

einer nicht länger aufschiebbaren Noth=

wendigkeit.

Ich fragte Dr. Landau, wie er die Redac=

tionskosten beziffere. Er machte eine

Aufstellung, worin er mit 50 fl. monatlich vor=

Several circumstances—Hildesheimer’s attack; the acquisition of a local Monday sheet by the Zionists Kohn and Rappaport, who that same instant broke with us; finally, the humiliation of being dependent for every little notice or correction on Bloch’s good graces—make the founding of our own organ a necessity that can be deferred no longer.

I asked Dr. Landau what his estimate of the editorial costs would be. He made a tabulation in which he figures with 50 guilders a month. Then I got Heinrich Steiner to make an estimate of the production costs for me. Steiner calculates them at 11,000 guilders a year.

דברים אחדים שהתרחשו — ההתקפה של הילדֶסהיימֶר, רכישתו של עיתון־יום־ב׳ מקומי קטן על־ידי הציונים קוֹהן ורַפּפּוֹרט שהתנתקו מאתנו בו־ברגע, ולבסוף הרגשת ההשפלה בהיותי תלוי בחסדו של בּלוֹך בכל פרסום של ידיעה עיתונאית או תיקונה — כל אלה עושים את ייסודו של ביטאון משלנו להכרח מידי.

שאלתי את הד״ר לַנדאו בכמה הוא מעריך את הוצאות המערכת. הוא ערך חישוב וּלצד שמו רשם חמישים גוּלדֶן לחודש. אחר־כך ביקשתי מהיינריך שטיינֶר לחשב את עלות ההוצאה לאור. שטיינֶר מעריך אותה ב־11 אלף גוּלדֶן לשנה.
