Aber das „Praktische“ der

Reise war ziemlich Null.

Vámbéry erzählte mir wieder

viel von sich, u. zw. was er

mir schon in Mühlbach er=

zählt hatte.

Er gab mir sein Ehrenwort:

ich würde bis Mai vom

Sultan empfangen werden.

Ich verstehe zwar nicht

ganz, wie er darauf was

nicht von ihm abhängt

sein Wort geben kann.

Ich muss aber mit Allem

zufrieden sein.

Uebrigens bin ich ganz

matt.

However, the “practical" results of the trip were close to zero. Vámbéry again told me a lot about himself—the things he had already related at Mühlbach.

He gave me his word of honor that the Sultan would receive me by May.

To be sure, I don’t quite understand how he can give me his word about something that doesn’t depend upon himself. But I must be satisfied with anything.

For the rest, I am quite weary.

הרהורים לנוכח עיר הנעורים.

אבל התוצאה "המעשית" של הנסיעה היתה בעצם אפס.

ואמבֶּרי שוב סיפר לי הרבה על עצמו, דברים שכבר סיפר לי במילבּאך.

הוא הבטיח בהן־צדק: עד מאי אתקבל אצל הסולטאן.

אמנם אינני מבין בעצם כיצד הוא יכול להבטיח בהן־צדק דבר שאיננו תלוי בו. אבל אני חייב להיות מרוצה מכל דבר.

נוסף על כך אני עייף מאוד.
