In Reichenau sprach ich gestern

mit Horn, dem früheren Chefredacteur

des Journal de St. Pétersbourg. Er ist

der Bruder des verstorbenen unga=

rischen Staatssecretärs Eduard Horn,

den ich in meiner Knabenzeit kannte.

Er war dreissig Jahre lang officiöser

Journalist in Russland u. kennt die

Verhältnisse (xx) natürlich gut. Er glaubt

nicht, dass Russland Palästina den

Juden zulassen werde. Es bestehe (xx)

eine „Gesellschaft des heiligen Grabes“

unter dem Vorsitz des Grossfürsten

Sergius. Auch meint er, dass man die

brauchbaren Juden nicht werde ziehen

lassen. Der Antisemitismus in Russland

sei darauf zurückzuführen, dass die

Staatsbürger in Russland höchstens acht

Thereupon, visibly reinvigorated, he asked me if he should write to Cardinal Rampolla in Rome to initiate action with the Pope.

Naturally I fully agree to this.

At Reichenau yesterday I spoke with Horn, the former editor-in-chief of the Journal de St. Pétersbourg. He is a brother of the late Hungarian State Secretary Eduard Horn, whom I knew in my boyhood. For thirty years he was a semi-official journalist in Russia and naturally is well acquainted with the situation there. He does not think that Russia would let the Jews have Palestine. He said there was a “Society of the Holy Sepulchre“ under the chairmanship of Grand Duke Sergius. He also feels that the serviceable Jews would not be allowed to leave.

Anti-Semitism in Russia, he says, is due to the fact that the city dwellers there number at most eight million;

מובן שאני מסכים לכך.

ברייכֶנאוּ דיברתי אתמול עם הוֹרן, מי שהיה העורך הראשי של .Journal de St Pétersbourg. הוא אחיו של סגן־השר המנוח אֶדוּארד הוֹרן , שהכרתיו בעודני נער. שלושים שנה שימש עיתונאי מטעם השלטון הרוסי, והוא כמובן יודע היטב את התנאים. אין הוא מאמין שרוסיה תסכים שהיהודים יקבלו את ארץ־ישראל. יש "חברה של הקבר הקדוש" בראשותו של הנסיך־הגדול סֶרגֵי. הוא גם אומר שליהודים הנחוצים להם לא ירשו לצאת.

יש לתלות את האנטישמיות בכך שברוסיה אפשר למנות רק שמונה מיליון אזרחים [עירוניים] לכל היותר,
