die ich zu barsch angerufen hatte,

weil sie am Präsidialtisch

regungslos träumten, statt Proto=

coll zu führen u. mir in der

Leitung zu helfen. Alles ruhte

auf meinen Schultern, u. das rede

ich mir nicht nur ein, es wurde

erwiesen, als ich am dritten Tage

Nachmittag vor Müdigkeit abging

u. das Präsidium Nordau übertrug.

Da ging Alles drunter u. drüber,

u. man erzählte mir später, dass

es eine wüste Sitzung war.

They had to talk from the floor, while he sat on a chair on the platform. Also among those offended were Mintz and a few others whom I had spoken to too harshly because they sat daydreaming and motionless at the presidential table instead of taking minutes and helping me conduct the proceedings.

Everything rested on my shoulders; and this is not just something I am telling myself, for it was proved when on the afternoon of the third day I left because of fatigue and turned the chairmanship over to Nordau. Then everything was helter-skelter, and I was told afterwards that it was pandemonium.

והוא התהלך בתחושת עלבון עמוקה. חיש־מהר מיניתי אותו לנשיא הנשף החגיגי וליושב־ראש הוועדה לארגון, ובעקבות זה הוא התנחל על בימת הנואמים ולא אִפשר עוד לנואמים לעלות עליה. הם אולצו לדבר ממקומותיהם בעוד הוא ישב על כיסא על הבימה. נעלבו גם מינץ וכמה אחרים כי גערתי בהם על שישבו ליד שולחן הנשיאות דמומים וחולמים, במקום לרשום פרוטוקול ולסייע לי בניהול הישיבות.

הכול היה מוטל על כתפַי שלי; אין אני מדמיין זאת סתם, והראיה לכך היא שביום השלישי אחר־הצהריים פרשתי מרוב עייפות ומסרתי את הנשיאות לידי נורדאו. ואז השתרר שם תוהו ובוהו גמור, וסיפרו לי אחר־כך שזאת היתה ישיבה פרועה.
