Dann wurde das Präsidium mit

Acclamation gewählt. Wir gingen

hinauf. Der Congress jubelte.

Ich gab Nordau das Wort. Er

sprach herrlich. Seine Rede ist

u. bleibt ein Denkmal aus unserer

Zeit. Als er wieder zum Präsi=

dialtisch hinaufkam ging ich ihm

entgegen u. sagte ihm: Monumentum

aere perennius!

Dann spielten sich die Referate

programmgemäss ab. Und jetzt

erwies es sich, wozu ich hatte

vier Jahre lang ins Palais

Bourbon gehen müssen. Ich war

im Unbewussten voll von Eleganzen

der Geschäftsordnung. Ich war

zuvorkommend u. energisch nach

dem Muster Floquets u. bemühte

mich in kritischen Momenten

mots présidentiels zu machen.

Then the presiding committee was elected by acclamation. We walked up. The Congress cheered.

Then the reports went off according to schedule. And now it became clear why I had had to go to the Palais Bourbon for four years. Subsconsciously I was full of the niceties of parliamentary procedure. אחר־כך הושמעו ההרצאות בהתאם לתוכנית ועכשיו התברר מה היה טעם הליכתי אל פּאלֶה בּוּרבּוֹן במשך ארבע שנים. מתחת לסף הכרתי רחשו שפע של גינונים בנוגע לניהול העניינים. הסברתי פנים והייתי נמרץ כמו פְלוֹקֶה, וברגעי משבר טרחתי להשמיע mots présidentiels (דברים נשיאותיים).

ביום הראשון עדיין עשיתי כמה וכמה שגיאות, בּשֵני, לדעת כולם, כבר הייתי במיטבי.
