Nous autres juifs, nous jouons un certain rôle dans la vie universitaire du monde entier. Les universités de tous les pays comptent parmi leurs professeurs des juifs, et nous avons de grands savants dans toutes les disciplines. Nous pourrions créer une Université Juive dans l’Empire de V[otre] M[ajesté] I[mpériale] par exemple à Jérusalem. Les étudiants (xx) ottomans n’auraient plus besoin d’aller à l’étranger. Ils resteraient dans le pays, obtiendraient la plus haute instruction scientifique et (xx) ne cesseraient pas d’être sous (xx) les lois de leur patrie. (xx) L’Université Juive devrait (xx) (xx) réunir toutes les qualités scientifiques des meilleures universités, écoles polytechniques et hautes écoles d’Agronomie.

Nevertheless, a way out can be found, and I humbly permit myself to submit it to Y.I.M.’s judgment.

 

We Jews play a certain role in university life all over the world. The universities of all countries number Jews among their professors, and we have great scholars in all fields of learning.

 

We could create a Jewish University in Y.I.M.’s Empire, for example in Jerusalem.

 

The Ottoman students would no longer need to go abroad. They would stay in the country and would obtain the most advanced scientific training without ceasing to be under the laws of their country.

 

The Jewish University should bring together all the scholarly qualities of the best universities, technical schools, and schools of agriculture.

ואולם אפשר למצוא פתרון, ואני מרשה לעצמי בהכנעה להציעו לשיקול דעתו של הוד רוממותו הקיסרית.

אנו היהודים ממלאים תפקיד בחיי האוניברסיטאות בעולם כולו. בקרב הפרופסורים בכל הארצות יש יהודים, ויש לנו מלומדים גדולים בכל התחומים. יכולים אנו להקים בממלכה של הוד רוממותו הקיסרית אוניברסיטה יהודית, בירושלים למשל.

הסטודנטים העות׳מאנים לא יצטרכו עוד להרחיק לחוץ לארץ. הם יישארו בארצם, יקבלו הכשרה מדעית ברמה הגבוהה ביותר ולא יצאו מתחומי החוק של מולדתם.

האוניברסיטה היהודית צריכה לאחד את כל הסגולות המדעיות של הטובות שבאוניברסיטאות ושל הטובים במכונים הפוליטכניים והמדרשות החקלאיות הגבוהות.
