4 Septembre [1897] Im Coupé nach Ischl.

Als ich vorgestern nach

meiner Rückkehr in die

Redaction des N[euen] Fr[eien] Pr[esse] kam

begrüsste mich bei meinem

Eintritt in den „localen

Theil“ eine Lachsalve.

Die Lacher waren Schütz,

Kollmer (geb. Kohn) Oppen=

heim etc.

Ich machte gute Miene

dazu. Als ich bei Bacher

eintrat, empfing er mich

mit einem unsicheren Lächeln.

Ueber die Sache wolle er

nicht einmal reden hören,

sagte er. Aber von Münz

hatte ich vernommen, dass

er sich alle Schweizer

Blätter habe geben lassen.

Wir sprachen dann eine

halbe Stunde von gleich=

giltigen Dingen. Er er=

zählte mir den Inhalt

September 4, on the train to Ischl

When, upon my return two days ago, I came into the office of the N. Fr. Pr., a salvo of laughter greeted my appearance in the city room. The chorus was composed of Schütz, Kollmer (né Kohn), Oppenheim, etc.

I put a good face on it. When I entered Bacher’s room, he received me with an uncertain smile. He didn’t want to hear a word about that business, he said. But I had learned from Münz that he had sent for all the Swiss newspapers.

Then we talked for half an hour about everyday matters.

בתא־הרכבת בנסיעה לְאִישְל.

כשבאתי שלשום, אחרי שובי, למערכת של .N.Fr.Pr, קידם אותי מטח־צחוק ב״מדור החדשות המקומיות". הצוחקים היו שיץ, קוֹלמֶר (לפנים קוֹהן), אוֹפֶּנהיים וכו'. הסברתי להם פנים. משנכנסתי לחדרו של בּאכֶר, קיבל אותי בחיוך מהוסס. אף אינו רוצה לשמוע דיבורים בעניין, אמר. ואולם ממינץ הבנתי שביקש שיניחו לפניו את כל העיתונים השווייציים.

שוחחנו אחר־כך במשך חצי שעה על דברים של מה־בכך.
