irrémédiables. J'ai des amis à Rome,

mais tout ne peut pas s'expliquer

par écrit, et il serait à mon avis

d'urgence de m'ecouter avant que

„Roma sit locuta“. J'ai tout lieu de

croire que les directeurs éclairés de

During the past year I had the honor of having a rather lengthy talk on the subject with Your Excellency’s illustrious predecessor, Monsignor Agliardi. Since then important events have taken place. I humbly believe that it would be of some interest to His Holiness the Pope to have accurate information about our movement, and I should be happy to furnish it to Your Excellency with absolute frankness and in the hope of not displeasing His Holiness. The news items in the press are, for the most part, absurd travesties, and they could inspire regrettable judgments as well as decisions that might be irremediable. I have friends in Rome, but not everything can be explained in writing, and in my opinion it is urgent that I be heard before Roma sit locuta [Rome has spoken], I have every reason to believe that the enlightened leaders of the Church will not regret having listened to me.

בשנה שעברה היה לי הכבוד לדבר על הנושא הזה באריכות עם קודמך הנעלה, מונסיניור אליארדי. מאז התרחשו מאורעות חשובים. אני סבור בענווה, כי יהיה בכך משום עניין להוד קדושתו האפיפיור לקבל מידע מדויק על תנועתנו, ואהיה מאושר להמציא מידע זה לכבוד מעלתך בגילוי לב, בתקווה שלא אגרום מורת־רוח להוד קדושתו. החדשות המובאות על־ידי העיתונות הן לרוב סילופים אוויליים המסוגלים לעורר שיפוט מדאיב ולהביא לידי החלטות שאולי אין אפשרות לתקנן. יש לי ידידים ברומא, אך לא הכול אפשר לפרש בכתב, ואני סבור שיש בכך דחיפות שישמעוני לפני ש־"Roma sit locuta" (לפני ש״רומא אמרה את דברה"). יש לי יסוד להאמין שראשי הכנסייה הנאורים לא יתחרטו אם יאזינו לי.
