(xx) l’honneur de voir (xx) le Grandduc de Bade au chateau de Mainau, et S[on] A[ltesse] R[oyale] m’a fait entrevoir que le gouv[erne- men]t allemand, sans prendre une initiative dans l’affaire, seconderait volontiers la proposition russe de concéder la Paléstine aux Juifs. Enfin il n’est pas téméraire d’affirmer que le Cabinet anglais qui vient de nous donner une (xx) preuve si magnanime de (xx) dispositions (xx) envers notre peuple malheureux, nous aiderait également (xx) dans nos efforts pour la Paléstine. Il ne dépend donc que du gouv[ernemen]t de S[a] M[ajesté] l’Emp[ereu]r de Russie que tout cela soit exécuté promptement. Depuis des années j’ai préparé le terrain à C[on]s[tantino]ple, et dans les cercles gouvernementaux je compte de nombreux amis de notre cause si avantageuse aux intérêts économiques de la Turquie.

 I have just had the honor of seeing the Grand Duke of Baden at the Mainau castle, and H.R.H. gave me to understand that the German government, while not taking the initiative in the matter, would gladly support the Russian proposal to grant Palestine to the Jews.

 

Finally, it is not too daring to say that the English cabinet, which has just given us such magnanimous proof of its sentiments toward our unhappy people, would likewise help us in our efforts toward settling in Palestine.

 

Thus it depends only on the government of H.M. the Emperor of Russia whether the whole thing will be carried out promptly. For years I have been preparing the ground at Constantinople, and in governmental circles I count many friends of our cause, which is so advantageous to the economic interests of Turkey.

עתה זה היה לי הכבוד לראות את הגרוֹסהֶרצוֹג מבּאדֶן בארמון במיינאוּ, ומדברי הוד מלכותו השתמע שממשלת גרמניה, בלא ליטול יוזמה בעניין, תצדד ברצון בהצעתה של רוסיה למסור את ארץ־ישראל ליהודים.

לבסוף, לא תהיה עזות מצח בטענה שממשלת אנגליה, שהוכיחה זה עתה נדיבות גדולה כל־כך כלפי עמנו האומלל, תסייע לנו באותה מידה במאמצינו למען ארץ־ישראל.

בממשלת הוד רוממותו הקיסר של רוסיה תלוי הדבר, שכל זה ייעשה במהרה. זה שנים הכנתי את הקרקע בקושטא, ובחוגי הממשלה [שם] יש ידידים רבים לענייננו, הנושא בחובו יתרונות כה רבים בשביל טורקיה.
