Mais tout en mentionnant encore une fois cette idée, je n’ai qu’à m’incliner (xx) respectueusement devant la décision (xx)si elle est écartée. (xx) Mon désir de travailler à l’apaisement des esprits persiste néanmoins,

The Russian ambassador’s intervention, well-intentioned though it may be, stands a very good chance of joining the documents of other fruitless interventions in the archives of the Sublime Porte. In my humble opinion, the only effective way to make H.I.M. the Sultan take the matter seriously would be a personal act of H.M. the Emperor of Russia, either in a letter to the Sultan or in an audience granted to me, which I would be authorized to make public. But although I mention this idea once again, I can only bow respectfully if it is brushed aside.

Nevertheless, my desire to work toward the soothing of tempers persists;

התערבותו של שגריר רוסיה, ככל שתהיה כוונתה טובה, טובים סיכוייה להצטרף למסמכים של יתר ההתערבויות הלא־פוריות בארכיון "השער העליון". לעניות דעתי, הדרך היעילה היחידה להביא את הוד רוממותו הקיסרית הסולטאן לידי התייחסות רצינית לעניין תהיה מעשה אישי מצד הוד רוממותו הקיסר של רוסיה, אם בצורת מכתב אל הסולטאן, אם על־ידי ריאיון שיעניק לי שאקבל רשות לפרסמו. ואולם, אף שאני חוזר ומזכיר את הרעיון הזה, הריני מרכין ראש ביראה גם אם יידחה.
