Ich berge oder gefährde ihr Vermögen, und

ich setze es durch, weil meine Feder bisher rein,

Ich bringe die Lösung der Judenfrage durch Ber=

gung des R [othschild]'s Vermögens — und umgekehrt.—

Ich bin aber auf die R[othschild]'s nicht angewiesen —

ich zöge sie nur vor als Knoten, weil ich das ganze

Geld in einem Nachmittag aufbringen kann, durch

simple passage d'ecriture.—

Sie sollen Albert R[oth]s[child] veranlassen, Familienrath

die Sache vorzulegen, und mich zu einem Vortrag vor

den Familienrath einzuladen %aber nicht in Paris,

weil mich Umgebung impressioniren könnte%.—

Etwas wie Palais Royal , oder Markusplatz bauen.—

If the R’s are not willing, I shall take the matter before the entire community of Jews. Apart from the delay, this would have the additional disadvantage of forcing me to divulge my most carefully guarded plans and deliver them to public discussion, including that of the anti-Semites.

The disadvantage to the R’s is the fact that the cause would become public knowledge and produce storms of rage (the Jews want to move away!); this could lead to serious unrest in the streets and to repressive legislation.

I present the solution of the Jewish Question through safeguarding the R. property, and vice versa.

They should induce Albert R. to present the matter to the Family Council and invite me to address the Council (but not in Paris, because the setting might overawe me).

אם הרוטשילדים לא ירצו, אביא את העניין לפני כלל היהודים. מלבד הזמן הרב הכרוך בכך יש בזה עוד חסרונות בשבילי, שהרי אצטרך לגלות את תוכניותי עד עומק, ולהעמידן לדיון פומבי (גם של האנטישמים).

בשביל הרוטשילדים טמון כאן החיסרון שהעניין ייוודע ברבים, יעורר סערות זעם (היהודים רוצים לצאת), ואולי יוביל למהומות קשות ברחובות ולפעולות תגמול בחקיקה.

אני מגן על רכושם או שאני מסכן אותו, ואני יכול לעשות זאת משום שעטי עד כה נקי מרבב ואינו עומד למכירה. כך הוא היום וכך יהיה גם בעתיד.
