Renaissance) schreiben.

Nordau meldet auch, man sei

zu ihm gekommen um ein Anlehen

der türkischen Regierung. Sie will

einige (xx) 40 Millionen francs

u. dafür die Mittelmeer=persische

Golfbahn=Concession sowie Besiedlungs=

recht für 700,000 [Quadrat-] Kilometer in

Palästina geben. Leider sind die

reichen Schufte nicht für uns zu

haben, und die Bank ist noch nicht da.

Es fällt mir ein, der Jewish

Colonization Association Nordaus

Anlehen anzubieten. Ich schreibe

ihm, er möge Zadok Khan aufsuchen,

ihm sagen, dass ich (xx) meinen Rück=

tritt von der Bewegung anbiete, wenn

die J[ewish] C[olonization] Association] das ausführt

I am writing him further that I want to make him governor of the Jewish Bank. Jealousy is stupid; then, too, I am not “on the make.” My present dream: to write a verse play (Renaissance costumes).

Nordau also reports someone came to see him about a loan for the Turkish government. The latter wants 40 million francs and is willing to give in return the concession for the railroad between the Mediterranean and the Gulf of Persia as well as the right to settle 70,000 square kilometers in Palestine. Unfortunately the rich bastards are not available to us, and the Bank does not exist yet.

It has occurred to me to offer Nordau’s loan to the Jewish Colonisation Association. I am writing him to see Zadoc Kahn and tell him that I offer to withdraw from the movement if the I.C.A. carries this out.

כן אני כותב לו שברצוני לעשותו לנאמן [במקור: Gouverneur] הראשי של הבנק היהודי. קנאה היא עניין טיפשי, והרי אינני רוצה "להיעשות" מישהו. החלום העכשווי שלי הוא לכתוב מחזה בחרוזים (בנוסח הרֶנֶסנס).

נורדאו גם מודיע שבאו אליו בעניין מִלווה בשביל ממשלת טורקיה. זו רוצה כ־40 מיליוני פרנקים, ובתמורה היא מוכנה לתת זיכיון למסילת הברזל מן הים התיכון למפרץ הפרסי וגם רשות להתיישב בתחום של 700 אלף קילומטר רבועים[!] בארץ־ישראל. מה חבל שאת הנבלים העשירים לא נוכל להשיג לענייננו, והבנק עדיין איננו.

עולה בדעתי להציע ליק״א את המִלווה של נורדאו. אני כותב לו שילך אל צדוק קאהן ויאמר לו שאני מציע שאפרוש מן התנועה אם תוציא יק"א את המלווה אל הפועל.
