Juli nach London. Ein Congress im Spätherbst

in Basel hätte höchstens 80 Theilnehmer u. würde

den Niedergang der Bewegung documentiren.

Ohne Congress aber kein Schekel, keine Be=

triebsmittel.

Krisenhaft schildert auch de Haas die Lage

in England.

Die Bank wird nicht fertig.

Heute in der N[euen] F[reien] P[resse] eine Depesche aus Rom,

Interpellation de Balzo in der Kammer über

Verbot jüdischer Einwanderung in Palästina.

Es geht daraus hervor, dass die türk[ische] Reg[ierung]

sich 1900 zweimal an die Mächte um

Verhinderung der jüdischen Immigration

wendete. Die Mächte gaben keine Antwort.

Das Schlimmste aber ist heute — das

Steigen der türkischen Papiere an den Börsen.

Offenbar der Coup, zu dessen Ausführung

Taussig der Gauner nach Constantinopel

reiste. Und ich bin machtlos! Wenn ich

heute wenigstens die Zeitung hätte, die

The Russians are grumbling and don't want to have such another trifling London Congress as last year’s. They don’t want to go to London in July. A Congress in late autumn at Basel would have 80 participants at the most and would be proof of the decline of the movement. Without a Congress, however, no shekel, no operating funds.

De Haas also gives a critical picture of the situation in England.

The Bank is not getting ready.

In today’s N. Fr. Pr., a despatch from Rome, interpellation in the Chamber by de Balzo about the prohibition of Jewish immigration into Palestine. It appears from it that in 1900 the Turkish government twice turned to the Powers for prevention of Jewish immigration. The Powers gave no answer.

However, the worst thing today is—the rising of the Turkish bonds at the stock exchanges. Apparently the coup [stroke] for whose execution Taussig, that cheat, went to Constantinople. And I am powerless! If today I at least had the paper which I lost in January through indescribable stupidity!

הרוסים רוטנים ואינם רוצים שוב בקונגרס חסר־תוכן כמו שהיה בלונדון בשנה שעברה. אין הם רוצים לבוא ללונדון ביולי. קונגרס בסוף הסתיו בבאזל ימשוך לכל היותר שמונים משתתפים ויכול להנציח את המפלה של התנועה. אבל בלי קונגרס אין שֶקֶל, אין אמצעי הפעלה.

גם דֶה האז מתאר את המצב באנגליה כמצב של משבר.

עניין הבנק לא נגמר.

היום ב־.N.Fr.Pr טלגרמה מרומא: [הוגשה] שאילתה של דֶה בּאלצוֹ בבית־הנבחרים בעניין איסור הגירה של יהודים לארץ־ישראל. משתמע ממנה שבשנת 1900 פנתה ממשלת טורקיה פעמיים למעצמות בעניין מניעת הגירת יהודים. המעצמות לא השיבו.

ואולם הדבר הגרוע ביותר קורה היום – עליית ניירות הערך הטורקיים בבורסות. זה מן הסתם התעלול שלשמו נסע הנבל טאוּסיג לקושטא. ואני חסר אונים! לוּ לפחות היה לי היום העיתון שמתוך טיפשות איומה כל־כך הנחתי לו לחמוק ממני בינואר!
