Gestern bei Mahmud Nedym gewesen,

der meint, die 200 £ würden für

die Hedjaz=Bahn angenommen werden.

Ich bat ihn also Tahsin zu schreiben,

dass ich die 200 £ wenn man darin

kein Inconvénient sähe der Hedjaz=

Bahn, im anderen Falle dem

Asile des pauvres spende.

Mahmud Nedym sprach über Politik

in seiner Weise, d. h. wie ein

kleines Kind.

Vor mir war der spanische Bot=

schafter bei ihm. Er verkehrt

natürlich mit allen Staats=

lenkern u. er scheint sich zu

halten, er macht keine zu

schlechte Figur! Welcher Kreis!

Went to see Mahmud Nedim yesterday, who thought that the £200 would be accepted for the Hedjaz Railroad. So I asked him to write Tahsin that if this was not regarded as an inconvénient [inconvenience] I was donating the £200 to the Hedjaz Railroad, otherwise to the Asile des pauvres [Poor-House].

Mahmud Nedim discussed politics in his fashion, i.e., like a small child.

The Spanish ambassador had been with him before I was. Naturally he associates with all guiders of states, and he seems to hold his own, he doesn't cut too bad a figure! What a circle!

I have the honor of enclosing herewith two newspaper clippings which were sent to me from London.

אתמול הייתי אצל מַחמוּד נֶדים; הוא סבור שיהיו מוכנים לקבל את 200 הלירות הטורקיות בשביל רכבת־חיג׳אז. ביקשתי ממנו אפוא שיכתוב אל טאחסין [בֵּיי] שאני תורם את 200 הלירות, אם אין בזה פגם, בשביל רכבת־חיג׳אז, ואם יש פגם בדבר – אז ל־asile des pauvres (בית מחסה לעניים).

מַחמוּד נֶדים דיבר על פוליטיקה כדרכו, כלומר כמו ילד קטן.

לפנַי היה אצלו השגריר של ספרד. הוא מתהלך כמובן עם כל מנהיגי המדינה, ונדמה שהוא יודע לעמוד על שלו. אין הוא משאיר רושם רע כל־כך! איזו חבורה!
