11 Januar [1903] im Coupé vor Calais

In Paris, wohin ich Greenberg

bestellt hatte, wurde die Antwort

an Lansdowne berathen. Meine

vom Wiener A[ctions-] C[omité] approbirten

Pläne wurden auch von Nordau,

Alex u. Greenberg gutgeheissen.

Danach entwarf stilisirte

Nordau die Antwort, deren

Englisch dann von Greenberg

verbessert wurde.

G[reen]b[er]g nahm den Brief mit

nach London. Ich schrieb an Lord

Rothschild, dass ich nach London komme

I have a harder and harder time leaving, presumably because I am getting older, more timorous, and more worried about my livelihood.

This time my good, wise mother, too, alarmed me by saying that I shouldn’t gamble with my livelihood.

What to do?

First, sleep on it once more.

on the train, outside Calais

In Paris, where I had asked Greenberg to meet me, the reply to Lansdowne was discussed. My plans, which had been approved by the Vienna A.C., also met with the approval of Nordau, Alex, and Greenberg. Then Nordau drafted the reply, whereupon Greenberg corrected its English.

Greenberg took the letter to London. I wrote Lord Rothschild that I was coming to London, and asked him for an appointment.

11 בינואר [1903], בתא הרכבת לפני קאלֶה

בפאריס, שלשם זימנתי את גרינבֶּרג, נדונה התשובה אל לֶנסדאוּן. תוכניותי אושרו על־ידי הוועד־הפועל הווינאי וזכו גם להסכמתם של נורדאו, אלכס [מַרמוֹרֶק] וגרינבֶּרג. אחרי־כן סִגנן נורדאו את התשובה וגרינבֶּרג תיקן את האנגלית שלה.

גרינבֶּרג לקח אתו את המכתב ללונדון. כתבתי אל רוטשילד שאני עומד לבוא ללונדון וביקשתי פגישה.
