Ich wollte eine Quadrierung der Landkarte vorschlagen, damit in den Berichten nur auf das Quadrat hingewiesen werden müsse, wo die Expedition gerade sei. Aber Col[onel] Goldsmid hat was

Kessler is chief, treasurer, and geological specialist. I have asked Warburg to wire Blanckenhorn for a brief statement (which we shall pay for) pointing out usable camping sites. I hope to find this statement waiting for me in Vienna and to give it to Kessler.

 

Three sets of maps are being prepared, one of which will stay with the expedition, one with Greenberg at Cairo, and the third with me.

 

I was going to suggest dividing the map into squares, so that the reports would only have to refer to the square where the expedition happened to be. But Col. Goldsmid has worked out something similar and even more ingenious for the English army:

קֶסלֶר הוא ראש המשלחת, גזבר ומומחה לעניינים של גאולוגיה. באמצעות וארבּוּרג ביקשתי מבּלאנקֵנהוֹרן, בדרך טלגרפית, סקירה על אוצרות טבע שאפשר לנצלם (שנשלם בעבורה). אני מקווה שאמצא את הסקירה הזאת בווינה ואתן אותה לקֶסלֶר.

 

יוכנו שלוש מערכות של מפות, אחת תהיה בידי משלחת החקר, אחת בידי גרינבֶּרג, ואחת תהיה אצלי.

 

רציתי להציע לחלק את המפה לריבועים; כך יהיה אפשר להצביע בדיווחים על הריבוע בלבד כדי לציין את מקום המשלחת. אבל הקוֹלוֹנֶל גוֹלדסמיד עשה משהו דומה ומעשי עוד יותר בשביל הצבא האנגלי:
