Abends noch bei meiner Freundin der guten alten Korwin-Piatrowska, die mich an meinen guten Hechler erinnert. Sie schrieb vor mir einen 8 Seiten langen Brief an Plehwe. Darin auf meinen Wunsch die Bemerkung, dass gerade jetzt, nach des Consuls Rostkowski Ermordung die Türkei jeden Wunsch Russlands gehorsam erfüllen werde.   12 August [1903] Petersburg Vormittags kam ein langer befriedigender Brief Plehwes mit einem privaten Begleitbillet. Antwort: Excellence la lettre que vous m’avez fait l’honneur de m’adresser, m’est parvenue. Je me permettrai de me présenter demain après-midi à quatre heures chez vous. Veuillez agréer, Excellence, (xx) les expressions de ma haute considération et de mon dévouement sincère Th Herzl  

Last evening I paid a call on my friend, dear old Mme. Korvin-Piatrovska, who reminds me of my good Hechler. In my presence she wrote an eight-page letter to Plehwe. In it she pointed out, at my request, that at this particular time, after the assassination of Consul Rostkovsky, Turkey would obediently carry out any wish of Russia’s.

 

August 12, St. Petersburg

 

Later in the morning came a long, satisfying letter from Plehwe, together with a personal note.

 

Reply: 

 

Your Excellency:

 

I have received the letter which you did me the honor to address to me.

I shall take the liberty of calling on you tomorrow afternoon at four o’clock.

With the expression of my high regard and sincere devotion,

אמש שוב הייתי אצל ידידתי, קוֹרווין־פּיאטרוֹבסקָה הזקנה הטובה, המזכירה לי את הֶכלֶר הטוב שלי. היא כתבה בנוכחותי מכתב של שמונה עמודים אל פּלֶוֶה. על־פי בקשתי כללה בתוכו הערה, שדווקא עכשיו, אחרי רצח הקונסול רוֹסטקוֹבסקי, תמלא טורקיה בצייתנות כל בקשה של רוסיה.


12 באוגוסט [1903], פטרסבורג

לפני הצהריים הגיע מכתב ארוך ומשביע רצון של פּלֶוֶה עם פתק־לוואי אישי.

תשובה [בצרפתית]:

הוד מעלתך,

המכתב שהואלת לכבדני בו הגיע לידי. ארשה לעצמי להתייצב אצלך מחר אחר־הצהריים בשעה ארבע.

קבל־נא, הוד מעלתך, את הבעת הוקרתי הנעלה ומסירותי הכנה
